What are Subscriptions / Memberships?

It’s almost inconceivable that a couple could live in our modern world without having some online subscriptions and/or memberships such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, Audible, Spotify, or any of the hundreds made available to us today.

🤔 Understanding how Subscriptions / Memberships affect your divorce.

While it’s difficult to to know which of these Subscriptions / Memberships will be considered “assets” by the courts, it’s possible that there is value associated with some of them which may lead to arguments if not handled properly. It’s impossible to know the best way to handle each Subscription / Membership in a given marriage, but it’s almost always easiest to cancel all joint subscriptions/memberships and start anew.


Jerry and Sally are voracious readers and have purchased hundreds of Kindle Books from Amazon. Initially, they both wanted to keep the Kindle account, but after some discussion, agreed to cancel the subscription to avoid a costly trial.
